Group Brand and Commercial Director, Mothercare
Gillian Berkmen is Group Brand and Commercial Director of Mothercare plc, with overall responsibility for sourcing, product technology, supply chain, buying, merchandising and marketing for the Mothercare and Early Learning Centre businesses. Mothercare is a leading specialist retailer for mothers-to-be, babies and children in the UK and around the world.
Gillian joined Mothercare in 2003 and has played a key role in helping to orchestrate the transformation of the retailer’s product and service offer and drive the financial recovery of the group and, in 2007, the acquisition and integration of the Early Learning Centre business. Her focus on customer needs and aspirations for their children embraces all Mothercare’s channels, including its thriving international, online and catalogue businesses. Her understanding of this seamless conversation with the customer is central to Mothercare’s international growth strategy.
Prior to joining Mothercare, Gillian was Group Buying Director at Watches of Switzerland and Mappin & Webb, where she helped steer the business following an MBO from Asprey Group. She spent the first 19 years of her career in fashion retail management, holding various buying and merchandising positions at a number of well-known high street names, including Miss Selfridge, Bhs and River Island.
Gillian is also a Non-executive Director at Jacques Vert plc.
